“He’s the master mind reader.” – Entertainment Tonight
Dubbed a “master showman” by the Los Angeles Daily News, mentalist-magician Max Maven astonishes and entertains in MAX MAVEN: THINKING IN PERSON: AN EVENING OF KNOWING AND NOT KNOWING, which People magazine has praised as “a new form of participatory theater.” Maven’s program comes to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Friday, October 28, 8:00 PM. Tickets, from $60-$40, are available at the CCPA Ticket Office, www.cerritoscenter.com, or by calling (562) 467-8818. This special attraction is not suitable for children younger than 12.
MAX MAVEN has dazzled and amazed scores of believers and skeptics with his one-man production, MAX MAVEN: THINKING IN PERSON: AN EVENING OF KNOWING AND NOT KNOWING. The New York Times hailed: “[The] category-defying mind-reading show veers into conceptual art.” LA Weekly enthuses, “It’s more than a ruse to amaze with trickery, it’s a magic act woven into slivers of metaphysics.”
Using an advanced and unique set of psychological principles and techniques, Maven discerns the thoughts of total strangers, pushing subliminal persuasion and the power of suggestion to the limit. “This guy can read you like an open book,” proclaims the New York Daily News.
Called “a master of repartee” by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Maven has received multiple awards from the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. In 1988, he became the first foreigner to be awarded the Tenkai Prize, the highest honor in Japanese magic. Maven was acknowledged in a special “Interactive Magic” category in the 1999 World Magic Awards; in 2000, he won the “Best Mentalist” title.
Maven has collaborated with big names in the magic industry, including David Copperfield, Siegfried & Roy, Doug Henning, Penn & Teller, and Lance Burton. Magic Magazine named Maven as one of the 20th century’s 100 most influential people in the field of theatrical magic, citing his ability for “entertaining and astonishing audiences with his bizarre brand of mental magic. … Most of Maven’s mind-boggling feats are accomplished through psychological subterfuge that he himself has cunningly created.”
